CFA announced today that they received an email from UEFA for the two cup games that they suspected could have been fixed. Both games were 2-0 against a lower division team and they ended up winning 3-2.
The first game between Ayia Napa and Nea Salamis was announced ok even though unusual betting activity was suspected.
Not the same story with the second game between Olympiakos and Doxa. UEFA said that according to the algorithms they use the game was flagged red as there was unusual betting activity.
CFA are now waiting for UEFA to send a full report of their finding and act accordingly. Let’s hope it all ends well as a scandal like this could seriously damage the image of football in Cyprus.
