Second leg between Alki vs AEK in Larnaca. First leg was won by AEK with a narrow 1-0. It didn’t take long for the home side today to match the score from the first game as with just 10 minutes into the game Alki won a corner and Santa Maria scored from with a great header.
Alki dominated possession throughout the first half and scored a second but it was rightly called off for offside. AEK on the other hand did a lot of defensive mistakes and they could only get shots on target from distance against a well organized Alki defense.
In the second half Skopelitis was introduced for Linsen in an attempt to hold the ball in midfield better and organize more attacks as one goal for AEK should be more than enough to send them through to the next round. Even though Alki had a couple of chances to get a second, AEK improved and Skopelitis was involved in most of their attacking so a great substitution, people wondering why he didn’t start. The score remained tied and set for extra time so in the last 15 minutes of the game both sides started taking more risks trying to score the winning goal but it wasn’t happening.
Entering into extra time it took seven minutes for Alki to score with Basof taking advantage of a loose ball from the keeper thinking he won his team the qualification. AEK had different things in mind and immediately went on the attack as one goal from them would almost guarantee qualification. Within three minutes (100) AEK won a corner and Moran somehow found room in the area to shoot and celebrated like crazy.
AEK was happy to defend in the second half of extra time and they did so brilliantly as they cleared well and kept possession quite easily as Alki looked exhausted.
